1. 7134 Brooks Lane, Action, Late at Night

[Ako had enough. The large bed was too cold and she was shivering almost uncontrollably since the cold had settled in. Bundled up in a housecoat wasn't enough for her, even despite the size. It was time to suck up the dignity and do something she hadn't done since she was at least six.

Marching over towards the master bedroom and hoping to god that Marvelous and Ambrosia hadn't done anything else for heat -- hey she listened to Kanade's girlish fantasies before -- she pushed the door open and hopped up onto their bed, sleeping or not. And without preamble, dug herself into the sheets from the bottom up to worm beside her parents.

Dignity intact. Kind of. Unless they shove her out or something.]

2. Out in town earlier that morning

[Ako's in town, having bundled up incredibly in mittens, and a jacket and everything else. She was looking for some kind of supplies, candles, blankets, anything. But the stores were so incredibly bare of essentials.]

Seriously this is getting ridiculous. I get here and it's like a freezer. Worse than anything Kanon Town had gotten before.

[And this was from a girl who, close to winter, wore her usual outfit of suspender shorts and a long sleeved shirt. Reaching for a blanket that was very very high up, she wished for her boots. At least then, she could have reached it.]

3. Phone

Okay, I have to ask. Is this normal? Really? I don't think shutting down the power when it get this cold is anything but normal.

[Bazett purposely wore more coats than needed in case the weather turned any colder. As a result, while she is not as warm as she was before, she does not feel cold yet.]

The bakery should be over this way.

[She begins walking toward the bakery.]

[Ako trots behind, quick in her steps to keep warm and to keep moving. She wanted to bring everything back as soon as possible.]

[They manage to reach the bakery with no problems. Like the general store, it is meagerly stocked.]

It looks like they only have the bland types...

[But as long as they filled her up, she is not about to complain.

Bland is fine. I'm sure we'll be focusing on how much there is, and not how it tastes.

[Bazett counts the money in her wallet and examines the cans in her backpack. She then indicates to the baker that she wants five loaves.]

Too bad they only have the smaller hand-held loaves. It would be more efficient if they had the bigger ones.

They were probably running low, and hadn't gotten anything in or ran short for a while.

You are probably right. I have not been to this store before, so I would not know.

[Before this, she had not needed to go to the bakery. And the one time when she had needed to stock up on supplies, the bakery had been flattened by the nuclear blast.]

Perhaps we should think of it as a lesson or a test of our skills.

[Her stay in Mayfield, as short as it may be, had certainly taught her many needed lessons.]

[It does not take long to get to the clothing store either. There do not seem to be many thick coats on sale, but there are plenty of jackets and vests.]

...And this is the clothing store. I wonder if someone else has already shopped here and taken all of the best things.

Possibly. They seem to be dangerously low on things. We need more socks and gloves though.

[She picks up some packs of socks and, after some debate, a couple of pairs of long underwear.]

It almost reminds me of Christmas at home.

[It was an odd Christmas when she didn't get at least one set of ugly sweaters or strangely patterned long underwear.]

Though we at least had some sort of heating.

[Ako nods] It doesn't get this cold back home. Temperatures in Kanon Town are actually quite moderate this time of year.

[These are just empty words. After all, both of them know that there is currently no escape from Mayfield.]

[Once she starts mentioning her hometown, she slips a little into her old accent, slurring her o's and r's and dropping some syllables.]
